History
Old Church Building
In 1769 Scottish preachers established preaching stations at Kirkinriola and the Braid on the outskirts of Ballymena. In 1822 the congregation moved into Ballymena and a new church was opened in 1824. This building eventually proved too small for the congregation and was replaced by a new church in High Street, which was opened on 4th September 1892. The congregation comprised of 200 families. A Lecture Hall was erected in 1907 and the minor hall in 1927. In 1968 with the proposed development of the new town centre, agreement was reached with the Development Commission to vacate the High Street site.
New Church Building
Work began at our present location in 1973. The buildings were officially opened on 25th September 1976. An extension was completed and opened on 27th February 1999. The Church is popularly known as High Kirk after the street where we were located for most of our history.
