PWA has gone – no,
not heresy, just a statement of fact! It
has become ‘Presbyterian Women’.
Now a name change can
be just that – a name change. But that really defeats the purpose of what PCI
had in mind when this was first mooted.
The mission statement aims to encourage all women to become disciples of
Christ and seek to fulfil the new motto of the organisation ‘Living for Jesus’
and highlight the need for:
Love and unity,
Obedience to God,
Christian living and spiritual maturity,
Service, using gifts, time and money
Local and global mission
The circle around the
cross on the new logo represents women whose lives are centred on the Lord
Jesus Christ.
We would like to encourage you – yes, YOU – to come along and join
with us. We meet on alternate Tuesday
nights at 7.45 pm.
Now we know that’s not
always possible, especially if you have other commitments like a young family
or a full time job (maybe even both!!), but please try to join us some of the
time. There are no age limits, no
barriers, and those of us who are already involved don’t bite – but we really
do want your input and your ideas to make ‘Presbyterian Women’ exactly that –
an encompassing group of all women in the High Kirk family.
This year’s varied
programme includes some people from ‘Commission’, a Belfast based charity
making programmes for Christian radio stations all over the world including
FEBA, HCJB, TWR and our own Downtown and U105.
We’ll be learning about some aspects of Asian cookery, hearing about the
work going on in the local ethnic community forum, learning a bit of what life
is like as a deaconess and of course, we’ll hear from some of our own High Kirk
folks who are working with those living in our own area. These are just a few examples of what is in
store. As you know, we have ‘adopted’ a
little school (Lusangazi) in Malawi and have already sent out school books,
jotters, pens, pencils, etc. with money to purchase sheets of tin for a roof and to buy bricks to help build a
teacher’s house. Soon we are hoping to
send out 2 complete football kits so that the children can have some fun as
well as learn their lessons.
Every night is
different, every night is special, and every night is Christ centred, so please
think about coming along.
We look forward to
seeing you.
