What is RSS? PDF Print E-mail

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication which doesn't really help to make it clearer. Read on and we will explain how it can help you and how it works.

RSS is widely used by today's websites to publish web content.  Popular news and web log sites use the format extensively to keep people informed. Basically it allows you to keep up-to-date with any changes to the website without the need to manually look through the site using your browser.

Benefits

Many people use this technology to save them time on-line.  They subscribe to feeds that interest them and then can easily remain informed as all the information is delivered to them in one place.  Subscribing to an RSS feed is a simple process, there is no registration and no personal information or email address needs to be given.

What do I need to be able to use RSS.

There are many free or inexpensive feed readers available and most modern web browsers will support RSS.  Look for the symbol on the top of the browser.  It will normally light up when you visit a page that has an RSS feed.

How do I subscribe

You will need to read the help instructions that are specific to the product that you are using but with most browsers it is usually just a matter of pressing the RSS Feed button when it is active.  You will then be offered the opportunity to complete the subscription.

What feeds are available on this Web site.

Look for the 'rss feed' text at the end of a page to see if there is a feed for that page.  The main ones that wil be of interest are on the Home page and the Events page.
