High Street churchIn 1769 Scottish preachers established preaching stations at Kirkinriola and the Braid on the outskirts of Ballymena. In 1822 the congregation moved into Ballymena and a new church was opened in 1824.

This building eventually proved too small for the congregation and was replaced by a new church in High Street, which was opened on 4th September 1892. The congregation comprised of 200 families. A Lecture Hall was erected in 1907 and the minor hall in 1927. In 1968 with the proposed development of the new town centre, agreement was reached with the Development Commission to vacate the High Street site.

Work began at our present location in 1973. The buildings were officially opened on 25th September 1976. An extension was completed and opened on 27th February 1999. The Church is popularly known as High Kirk after the street where we were located for most of our history.

If you would like to learn more about the history of High Kirk then you might like to consider buying the excellent book, A Goodly Heritage, written recently by Jack Adams which takes the reader through the journey from a small preaching station on the outskirts of Ballymena to the large congregation that exisits today.  A Goodly Heritage

The book can be obtained through the High Kirk Church office (02825 644834) at a cost of £10 including postage. Profits from the sale of the book are going to Christian based groups for the relief of suffering in the Third World through Radio Cracker.
