We were inspired by the way Jesus loved and reached out to the ‘outsiders ‘ during his earthly ministry and by a pampering ministry at Abundant Life Church, Bradford which some of us visited in 2006. God has opened the door to the Hope Centre, a drop-in centre in Mill Street doing a great job of providing support to those struggling with addiction, and also to their families. The girls there each have unique personalities, gifts, dreams and struggles. It is obvious that God is already at work there and he has given us the privilege of joining in. We offer facials, head massage, hand and feet treatments (including washing feet!) one Monday and one Wednesday a month. There is also relaxing background music, refreshments, gifts, fun and chat. We minister mainly through touch and quietness but sometimes get the opportunity to listen or to commit to praying for people. We aim to show people that they matter to God and to us and to build relationships. In a way we are expressing our love to God (through serving people that matter to him) -like the woman who anointed Jesus’ feet with expensive perfume from the alabaster jar. Our symbol, the butterfly, speaks of the freedom Jesus longs to give us all. Our dream is to have more teams so we could go to other places such as hostels for homeless women or even prison ministry. If any woman reading this feels the ministry is for them we would love you to join us-we are all amateurs and no previous training is needed. You will get much more out of it than you give. |
