Laser Groups PDF Print E-mail

Small groups have played a significant role in the development of the Church. In the early Church, small groups were not an extension of the Church - they were the Church. At High Kirk, we call our small groups Laser Groups based on the main aims of the groups.

Many people have benefitted from belonging to a Laser Group, and if you would like to take the opportunity of joining a group then please contact one of the leaders or Gareth McFadden at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Groups meet at different times and venues, according to demand. A current list of Laser groups is available on request from the office, from the notice board at the back of the church or in the following pdf document.

Laser groups are so-called because they all involve several components:

Love - Love for God (worship and praise) and love for others (serving and caring for one another in the group).

Learn - Learning about Jesus and his will for our lives and learning about one another and ourselves.

Serve - Each group must decide how it will express Christian love to the community and others in the body.

Reach - Reaching others for Christ.

In a Church as large as ours, it can be very difficult to build strong relationships and make deep friendships. Laser groups have a vital role to play in developing fellowship and ‘community’ in the congregation, enabling us to be responsible to one another and for one another. They also help to promote spiritual growth and discipleship in our Christian lives, encourage the development and use of our spiritual gifts, and provide an opportunity to reach out to others in Christ’s name.

God’s Word is central to all groups, but some have a different emphasis from others. Nurture groups are designed for those who are young in the Christian faith, to give them help and encouragement with the basics of Christian living. fellowship groups provide an opportunity to share personal issues at a deep level, while Formal Bible Studies are geared for those who prefer a more traditional approach to small groups.
