Thank you for visiting our web site. We hope that you get a flavour of our church by exploring the site and that we might see you at one of our Sunday services.
High Kirk is a Presbyterian church which has been in existence since the 18th century and is named after the High Street in Ballymena where the church was formerly located. It is also known as 2nd Ballymena Presbyterian Church. Currently we have about 750 families claiming connection and we aim to cater for all ages as we encourage people to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever. The present building in Thomas Street was completed in 1976 and its contemporary design has facilitated the modern and more informal style of our worship which blends the best of old and new praise.
We seek to encourage people to become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ, moving people on from merely being church members to being ministers of God’s grace to each other and to our community.
Moving people from membership into ministry by: Glorifying God Generating Fellowship Growing Spiritually Giving Service Going with the Good News so that we might “prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up, until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” Ephesians 4:13
Making the Vision Work
The Minister and Kirk Session (the elders) help to put High Kirk’s vision into practice by giving spiritual leadership, having responsibility for the paid staff and overseeing several Working Groups which encourage ministry in the different areas of church life. The Kirk Session is also responsible for the pastoral oversight of the congregation. The congregation is divided into thirty-five pastoral districts with an elder overseeing each one. The Congregational Committee, which works through four sub-committees, is mainly responsible for property and financial matters: The sub-committees are - Property, Finance, Technology and Personnel/Admin.
