SUMMARY:Discovering your God-Given gifts – Why do you think and act the way you do
DESCRIPTION:In Romans 12:6-8\, Paul tells us that God has given each of us a gift\, which the Amplified Bible also translates as ‘talent’ or ‘quality’\, and Peter writes in his first letter that we should use these for the benefit of others and for God’s glory (1 Peter 4:10). \nThe free will that God has given us means that we can choose to use them in this way\, neglect them or even use them for selfish gain. These gifts were not an afterthought for God. He gave them to us when He fearfully and wonderfully formed us in our mothers’ wombs and have been a part of our character throughout our own lives\, revealed to us through the Holy Spirit. \nLike coloured or tinted sunglasses will colour the way we see the world\, these gifts influence the way we see and respond to the world and people around us. They motivate our natural responses in situations\, and we find the opportunity to use them meaningful and fulfilling. \nThat’s why we refer to them as ‘Motivational Gifts’\, because they are the motivation\, or driving force\, behind the way we see and interact with the world around us.

SUMMARY:Discovering your God-Given gifts – How gifts affect your relationships
DESCRIPTION:Before Paul tells us about the different gifts that we have in Romans 12\, he describes believers as being like a body\, made up of different parts\, but all connected to one another. We are mutually dependant on one another but working for a common purpose – the glory of God. \nBecause Peter reminds us that our gifts are for the benefit of others\, this also means that our relationships with one another should be mutually beneficial. When we use our gifts in the way God wants us to use them\, then we will build one another up\, strengthening the relationships within the church. \nBecause our gifts impact how we respond to the world around us\, and because we have different gifts within the body of believers – and within our own families – we will see and react to situations differently to one another. This can often be the cause of conflict amongst members of the Body of Christ\, particularly when someone responds to a situation differently to how we think that they should. \nUnderstanding how the different gifts impact us goes a long way to helping us understand these different responses which will make us more empathetic\, and more forgiving\, towards one another.

SUMMARY:Discovering your God-Given gifts – What career or ministry suits you best
DESCRIPTION:Jeremiah 20:12 tells us that God sees our minds and our hearts. Because He was involved in our formation\, He knows that we are different to one another. \nWe’ve already seen how these gifts God has given us motivate the way we see and respond to the world around us\, and they also determine the things we enjoy and love doing. After all\, who doesn’t enjoy doing something that we’re good at?  \nAs we discover our gifts\, we will understand how certain ministries within the church – and even careers – are best suited to us when we use the gift God has given us. That doesn’t mean that they cannot be used in all areas of ministry. Nor should we use the knowledge of our gift be an excuse not to be involved in other areas of ministry.   \nWhatever your gift might be\, it should never prevent us from being compassionate to one another\, or offer resources if we are able. But we will feel the greatest satisfaction and accomplishment when we are doing the things God has designed us to love doing.
