Serve the Lord with gladness
- Opportunities for service within our Pastoral/Discipleship ministries
The Bible has much to say about serving the Lord, emphasising that as Christ’s
followers, He wants us to show our love and gratitude to Him by serving one another within
his family, the church.
High Kirk offers various opportunities for service in different areas – here are some of the
needs within our pastoral/discipleship ministries.
Christian Foundation Course - this 6 session class on the basics of Christianity is a good
starting place, usually leading to participants making a public faith commitment as full
communicant members of the church. This course is held twice each year – the next one will
be in Spring 2017.
Laser Groups are open to all who attend High Kirk, while especially encouraging each of our
members to be involved in a group. Being in a Laser group is essential for effective pastoral
care and discipleship. There is always a need for more people to host a group in their home,
or to lead or assist with leading a group.
Some people cannot make an ongoing commitment so there are short-term
opportunities to grow in faith provided by Bible Academy, mentoring programmes like Shine
(ladies), One-to-One nurture and follow-up, supporting someone for a few weeks/months, of
perhaps leading an 8 session Discipleship Explored group.
As a church family we try to express our love for one another in a tangible way. For those who
can offer practical help, please consider helping with the preparation and distribution of
Harvest and Christmas gifts to our senior members. Anyone who enjoys catering/food
preparation could join the Freezer ministry or Silver Link teams. These tokens of food etc
are greatly appreciated and help to show Christian care and concern.
Many men and women in our congregation are very caring and can bring encouragement
and a listening ear to those who may be hurting. Why not think about becoming a Visitor,
spending time with one or more people regularly? Or join our GriefShare team to support the
bereaved, Rebuilders helping anyone facing separation/divorce or our Ways ‘n’ Means team
supporting those with ongoing health issues.
