We do Sunday School to disciple the
children who God has blessed our church
with. In normal circumstances Sunday
School follows a programme throughout the
academic year, which is split by age, so that
the teaching is age appropriate. We believe
that it helps to bring Jesus, who they read in
the Bible to life and helps them to see that
He is truth and the big overarching story of
the Bible. Sunday School is so important in
helping to build the foundations of faith for
each child and in forming relationships built
on love, support and a sense of belonging,
that are crucial for children. We want to show
each child how important Jesus is and what
it looks like to have a relationship with him
for themselves. It helps them to open up the
Bible and understand what they are reading,
it helps them know that prayer is a way they
can communicate with God, it helps them
to build friendships with other children who
are learning about Jesus and it helps them to
know that church is a community where they
can  nd love and acceptance that is centred
in Christ.
As Sunday School is there to help parents to
raise their children to love and follow Christ, it
is so important to the life of our Church. This
is why, in these days, we face the challenge
of not being able to meet together in Sunday
School.
We don’t get to interact with the children in
the way that we would like to, we can’t ask
them questions or help them to think
something through. However, even though
I now cannot have a conversation with each
child or open the Bible with them, I have faith
that God will be speaking to them. I pray that
through the resources sent out each week
that God will be speaking to and teaching
each child.
Sunday School is there to help parents in
their role of being the primary disciplers
of their children. As parents, you have an
amazing opportunity to point your children to
Jesus in the home. Demonstrating your own
faith in the home will show children the
importance of it. However, it is not always
easy. There are some really good resources
out there that can help you as you speak to
your children each day about Christ. Many
resources are free to use online at the
moment which I can point you to and would
encourage you to have a look at and engage
with. Please be assured that I am praying
