For all volunteers who make HK the place
Throughout 2019 our church has seen
a number of changes – 61 joined our
congregation with 41 added to the
communion roll. We celebrated the Lord’s
supper on 4 occasions with an average of
384 joining together in remembrance of the
Lord’s accomplishment on our behalf.
Our church structures remain as we
believe God would have us function with a
departmental structure of Prayer & Worship,
Pastoral, Youth & Children and One Mission
& Discipleship. Our sta team has embraced
a number of changes over the last twelve
months as we said farewell to both Andrew
Dickson and Stuart Beattie but welcomed
Cliord White as Associate for Youth
Ministries and Stephanie Houston as
Associate for Children’s Ministries and then
in early 2020 Rachel Kirk was appointed to
the role of Director of Worship to give us a full
complement of sta. We also welcomed Willis
McDowell on to sta to lead our Café
Explore initiative as we sought to do church
in a dierent way, following the lessons
learned from the Alpha course. Each
ministry area continually reviews its
eectiveness alongside their Lead Elders
and Session in order to do things both better
and with a Christ focus. As a body, Session
value your prayers as we seek God’s
guidance so that we are not just hearers of
the Word but that our lives witness to the
fact that Jesus is our Saviour.
that it is, to you and your families we again
say thank you for your devotion and
commitment to the cause that is Jesus.
I’m reminded of the several references
throughout scripture of the body needing all
of its parts, if it is to operate eectively and
that is equally true of the body that is HK – as
a church we are busy and there is something
for everyone to be involved in – the welcome
to the stranger, the encouragement to a
friend, walking alongside someone who has
had bad news or has lost a loved one, being
practical with the gifts God has given you to
share, going into the private place to pray,
listening to God through the daily reading of
His word, working with young people, leading
in worship, doing the unseen things, being
the Christian in your home. May God richly
bless you as you grow in obedience to Him.
As I close and re˜ect on how God blessed
us during 2019, I’m aware that last year I
encouraged us to have Courage for the year
ahead as we sought to build His kingdom.
This year as I write nearly half way through
2020, and in the midst of Covid lockdown,
we have a dierent challenge to face – one of
ensuring we keep close to God and prepare
for whatever sort of world we emerge into
over the next few months. Session is already
discussing what the future of church could
be and how HK can walk with God in this new
situation. Please pray for and with us that
we will be attuned to God’s voice, that we
will have learned much during this period of
enforced separation and that when that time
arrives for us to do things together again that
we will do mighty things in His name.
